the SILVER SURFER

Base: Vision head, Dr Doom body, DC Aquaman's feet

My Silver Surfer mk3.

First attempt was with a silver lycra bodysuit... which was ok... except the cuffs ruined the sleek look and I couldn't get the silver paint on the head and hands to match the lycra. So...

Second attempt; paint the whole body silver. Looked better... but have you ever found a really good shiny silver acrylic paint? Nope, neither have I. Then I happened across an interesting item in a Hobby catalogue... Bare Metal foil, very thin, self-adhesive stuff...

And that's what my mk3 Silver Surfer is covered in. Works well in theory... on plastic not so hot. Lots of curves and contours to cause many a headache (and even more creases). And then I got the to lower legs... and softer plastic that bent... creasing the foil over it (ohwhyohwhyohwhy didn't I persist in my hunt for a decent chrome spray paint like John Zink did his excellent Surfer with?). Struggled on (oh boy, those fingers were fun too... and the shoulder joints...). Finished him with a pair of silver lycra shorts and silver PVC belt.

Moderately happy with the result - he does look rather nice from a distance... but close up, with all the joins and tiny creases, not so hot.

His surfboard? A piece of artcard with silver card on the front and back... and extra pieces added to give that grooved effect.
